Standard & Twain Blind Tasting: June '22

You can check out my spiel on what Standard & Twain is, what you get, and how awesome it is here. Use the code “Whiskey” at checkout and you will receive a free cigar with your first order!  This is my sixth month with this subscription and I have to say that I continue to be pleased month to month. I haven’t loved every cigar that I have received, but that’s kind of the point. You can’t possibly like everything you try, but you have to try different things to better understand what you do enjoy. The biggest concerns for...

Yard Work Sessions: ADVentura Cigars The Navigator Pinzon

Yard Work Sessions: ADVentura Cigars The Navigator Pinzon

We’ve gotten a decent amount of rain lately, so I’ve got to catch up on some mowing this evening. I also wanted to smoke something new so I grabbed an ADVentura Cigars The Navigator from my humidor. Vitola Battle: Despot Cigars Series J

Despot Cigars were launched in 2019 by a pair of Serbian brothers who are the second generation in the cigar industry. Their father has been in the business since 2004 and, according to their website, “launched the cigar scene in Serbia”. Their portfolio consists of the Series J (Green Band), and Series U (Black Band). My understanding is that both will be offered in 4 vitolas, and both are made in Esteli, Nicaragua. Despot Cigars caught my attention a little before their introduction to the American market. I’m always intrigued by new companies, but I was also very intrigued by...

Companion de Warped Review

Companion de Warped Review

Last year marked the first Warped Cigars release out of the Dominican Republic - the Chinchalle. The end of 2021 saw the second release from the same factory, Tabacalera La Isla, with the Companion de Warped. This release is also the second time that Warped has used a Mexican San Andres wrapper and it is available in a single vitola. From what I understand, the majority of the filler blend is Dominican tobacco. Like the Chinchalle, I am intrigued by these Dominican ventures from Kyle Gellis. I think this is an interesting expansion of a Nicaraguan dominant portfolio.  Country of...
