Black Star Line Cigars Dark War Witch Pig LE

The Dark War Witch was released in late 2021 by Black Star Line Cigars as a follow up to the War Witch. This year the Dark War Witch is getting a limited edition line extension in the form of the “Pig” - a 4 3/4 x 60 Perfecto. The Pig is limited to 200 boxes of 10 and maintains the Dark War Witch Blend. Upon announcement I was immediately excited to try the blend in a different size, as I am a big fan of the Dark War Witch.

This is a firmly packed, evenly rolled perfecto. The wrapper is molted and veiny. The cigar smells like baking spices and earth. The cold draw offers little given the tight draw that is common on perfectos prior to lighting. First light brings about medium bodied smoke with mild-medium flavors of  a creamy must, some earthiness, and a touch of pepper. The retrohale is bolder with some dark cocoa, toast, and pepper. As the burn line crests the tip, the body and flavor are up to full. The profile is toasty, with some woods, tannins, pepper, and a subtle sweetness. Moving past the first third it is rolling along with perfect performance and a consistent profile. The second third has added some citrus and the retrohale is creamy and has a berry liqueur-esque note. Entering the final third the draw is going back to a toasty, woody, and earthy profile. I’m starting to get some indications of medium-full strength. I had to do a slight touch up at this point. Coming to an end at just over an hour the profile has remained consistent through to the end.

Overall Experience

Overall this was a solid, interesting cigar. It’s reminiscent of the classic Dark War Witch Corona Gorda, but with some unique flavor transitions throughout and a bit more strength. I think this would be a great regular production addition to the Dark War Witch line. If you like the Dark War Witch Corona Gorda, definitely give this one a shout. It should hit the palate of anyone that likes toasty, earthy Nicaraguans that also showcase subtle sweetness and spice. Of course you should enjoy this if you enjoy Aganorsa tobacco.
