Tasting Notes - Henry McKenna 10yr Bottled in Bond
Prepared by Whiskey & Whitetails Contributor
  Proof: 100
  Age: 10 years old
  Distillery: Heaven Hill
  Mashbill: 78/10/12
Nose: Allspice, Butterscotch, Caramel, Cinnamon, Coffee, Honey, Plum, Leather, Vanilla

Taste: Creamy/Sharp mouthfeel. Apricot, Brown Butter, Brown sugar, Caramel, Honey, Leather, Nutty, Molasses, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Nutmeg, Mint, Citrus

Finish: Medium Length. Slow build on the finish. Black pepper and cinnamon poke through enough to let you know there is spice there, but the sweet oak outshines them. Delicious sweet oak, with heavy vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar really shine. The sweet notes pair perfectly with the oak tannins, citrus, and spice from this.

Overall: People have clamored to grab Henry McKenna since it won some awards in 2018. I think it is crazy that before them - no one cared to touch this, at the time, sub $35 bottle with a ten foot pole. I think every flavor in this dances around perfectly, but they don't last long at all. The finish could be longer and the flavor could be more prominent. I think for retail, this is a must have, but it should never be something you hunt for.
